We've had scattered thunderstorms here for the past two days. I don't mind thunder storms. They tend to cool things off a bit and allow for some out door time splashing in puddles. As long as they don't morph into tornado's, we're good.
Storms have never bothered my kids. They don't bat an eye at loud winds or stir in their sleep during the crack of thunder that rattles the house. Something changed this time. It was thundering and Liam started to FREAK OUT.
"Mamaaaaaaaaaa! Mamaaaaaaaa! It's WOUD!" (loud)
There were tears, wailing and clinging for dear life to my neck. Every time he would settle down enough to peel himself away and go play, it would thunder again and send him running in to my arms. His little heart just pounding.
Javen's response? "It's aw-wight, buddy. It's just woud funder. I don't wike it eve-er. But it's aw-wight."
My boys...so sweet.
Yesterday the thunder woke Liam up from his nap. It was a long groggy day for us both, but the continuous rumbles ensured lots of snuggles for me.
In other news, I've come up with some pretty good ideas for indoor afternoon activities so far...
1. Last week when Heather was here I asked her if she'd mind
building a fort out of blankets to distract the boys while I snuck out for a little bit. To say that they LOVED that fort would be an understatement. We had nightly family reading time (complete with flashlight), and daily play. It also doubled as a garage for all of their cars and trucks. We kept it up for a week before taking it down, but I definitely plan on doing that one again!
2.
Indoor picnic with a movie. Snack time on the floor in the living room in front of the TV? Unheard of! I think that's why it was such a hit. Javen asks for it every day when he wakes up from his nap. (No, we don't do it every day.) If I'm feeling brave one day, I may actually let them try an entire meal out this way.
3.
Painting. This was a MESSY afternoon, but they had a blast covering the paper, their faces, hands, arms, legs, feet and the kitchen floor in (washable) paint. This activity also led to a
mid-afternoon bath, which was fun as well. I let them play and splash until the water went cold.

| Liam didn't venture much from my lap because of the thunder. He made sure that Mommy's legs matched his though. |
4.
Play doh. Liam in his high chair and Javen at the table. We made elephants, lizards, worms, crabs, ice cream cones, lollipops, balls...you name it. Liam did a great job not eating it, and actually had a blast pretending to lick the ice cream cone. I think he had more fun than Javen.
5. Never underestimate the power of
paper, crayons, scissors and glue. My kids are still a bit too young for scissors, so I cut out random shapes and let them glue away. Yesterday we cut out a huge umbrella and Javen requested ice cream cone shapes to glue onto it. He completed his masterpiece using different color crayons to make sprinkles all over it. Liam enjoyed scribbling on his name and gluing shapes onto his paper.
Some other ideas I have up my sleeve are:
-Puzzle day
-Book themed day (My boys love the book
Go Dog, Go so we plan on having a dog party-like the one in the book.)
-Cooking/baking day
-Playing with shaving cream in the bathtub
-Laundry basket day (my kids LOVE playing with my laundry baskets)
-Water day (outside, obviously!)
-Park day (like we did this morning, the storms yesterday cooled things off a bit...it was in the mid-80's...so we played outside for a while.)
-More to come...hopefully!
